In MY Hands

“My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.” – John 10:29, NIV

Two weeks ago, Richard came home from work to discover his house had been burglarized. Thankfully, his wife and children weren’t home when it happened.

So, Richard filed a police report and waited anxiously to hear if the criminals had been caught. Despite the fact that the event seemed random, Richard could still sense anxiety from his family.

His youngest son, David, had difficulty falling asleep. So each night, the little boy would crawl into his father’s bed. Richard tried to soothe his son. He read bedtime stories, sang funny songs, and shared his favorite memories from own childhood.

Finally in frustration, Richard glanced at the ceiling. How do I comfort him, God? What should I tell my son?

The verse that Richard had read recently in his devotional time came back to him. He wrapped his arms around David, “You feel how I’m holding you? No one could take you out of my hands because I’m your dad. You’re safe right here.”

David yawned, “I love you, daddy.” He whispered before he fell to sleep.

Father, when the events of my life are scaring me, remind me again that You’re holding onto me. I know I’m safe in Your arms. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
